ASHBURN, VA—Congressman Frank Wolf, who has represented the 10th District of Virginia since entering the Congress in the Reagan wave of 1980, will face three challengers. This development was first reported on July 5th by Leesburg Today and its sister publication Ashburn Today, prominent publications within the 10th District. Within a few days a number of blogs that cover politics in Northern Virginia, including Too Conservative and Raising Kaine, had reported the news, which was also reported in the Washington Post and on WMAL radio 630 AM.
Two of the challengers, Judy Feder and Mike Turner, are Democrats who would be challenging Congressman Wolf in the general election and the other challenger, Vern McKinley, is a Republican who would be challenging Congressman Wolf in the primary or a convention. Much of the focus of the reporting was on the historical nature of the intra-party match-up for Republicans as the Washington Post noted that Wolf “has never had a primary opponent in 26 years in office.”
“The coverage in these initial weeks of the campaign will naturally be on the ‘who’ and the ‘why’ of the upcoming campaigns,” noted Vern McKinley, Congressman Wolf’s 2008 Republican challenger. “I am looking forward to getting into more details on the policy issues, such as Congressman Wolf’s record on government spending and his advocacy of an ever-expanding role for the federal government,” he added.
